Njurgun Nangamai

Njurgun Nangamai is an Aboriginal weaving business based on the South Coast of New South Wales, founded by Yuin-Walbuja woman Maiquilla Brown. Through workshops and handcrafted creations such as jewellery and baskets, Njurgun Nangamai shares traditional weaving techniques while creating spaces for cultural learning, connection and storytelling. The business celebrates the strength of Aboriginal culture and supports the continuation of weaving knowledge across community.

About Me

Who I Am
I’m a proud Yuin-Walbunja woman from the South Coast of New South Wales. My weaving practice is grounded in the stories, knowledge, and teachings passed down through generations. I’ve been guided by strong women and community who’ve shown me that weaving is not only an artform — it’s a way to connect with culture, self, and Country.

What I Do
At Njurgun Nangamai, I share Aboriginal weaving with communities, schools, and organisations through workshops, cultural consultancy, and handmade creations. I weave with care and purpose - each piece telling a story of strength, identity, and renewal.

Where I Work
I’m based on the beautiful Dharawal and Yuin Country along the South Coast, and I travel across regions to deliver workshops and cultural experiences.

Why I Do This
Weaving brings people together. It’s a practice that heals, teaches patience, and creates space for reflection. Through Njurgun Nangamai, I want to share this gift with others - so that we can keep weaving our stories strong and pass them on to the next generation.
